TURKISH GOVERNMENT SUPPORTS SOCAR'S ACTIVITIES IN TURKEY
SOCAR President Rovnag Abdullayev met with Turkish delegation led by State Minister Kursad Tuzmen to attend a business forum, on December 4.
Mr. R. Abdullayev stressed the Company's special role in expanding cooperation between the two countries.
Recalling that SOCAR acquired a controlling stake in Turkey's major petrochemical maker Petkim this year and further investment will be made in the Company next years.
Kursad Tuzmen said his Government stands ready to provide any assistance for the expansion of SOCAR's activities in Turkey.
He stressed that Turkish companies have shown interest in cooperation in the fields such as oil-contaminated land lean-up, shipping and shipbuilding, and gas supply.
 
DELEGATION OF AZERBAIJAN`S MINISTRY OF LABOR AND SOCIAL PROTECTION OF POPULATION VISITS GERMANY
Azerbaijani delegation led by Minister of Labor and Social Protection of Population Fuzuli Alakbarov visited Germany from December 2 to 5.
During the visit, the delegation held meetings with German Federal Minister of Labour and Social Affairs Olaf Scholz, the Ministry`s State Secretary Gunther Horzetzky and Parliamentary State Secretary Franz Thunnes.
The meetings focused on improving national legislation in labor, employment, labor protection and safety.
Successful bilateral cooperation on promotion of employment, social protection of the unemployed was stressed during the meetings.
It was also noted Germany would render assistance to Azerbaijan in developing mutual cooperation on employment and labor safety within the European Neighborhood Policy.
The Azerbaijani Minister spoke of social and economic reforms being carried out in his country.
He stressed the importance of using Germany`s practice in improving the sector of labor and social protection of population.
The delegation also met with Bundestag members Steffen Reiche and Gerd Andres to exchange views on relevant cooperation between Azerbaijan and Germany.
They praised Azerbaijan`s substantial role in the region`s development and the country`s fair position on the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict settlement.
As part of the visit, the Azerbaijani delegation also visited the Academy for Occupational Health and Safety in Dresden.
 
TURKISH FOREIGN MINISTER BRIEFS JOURNALISTS ON HIS PARTICIPATION IN OSCE FOREIGN MINISTERS` MEETING IN HELSINKI
Turkish foreign minister Ali Babacan held Friday a press conference on his participation in OSCE foreign ministers` meeting held in Helsinki, Finland.
Babacan said on the sidelines of the meeting, he conducted bilateral meetings with his Azerbaijani and Armenian counterparts.
He underscored his country praises the fact that a document on speeding up talks aimed at settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict was adopted during the meeting.
According to Ali Babacan, foreign ministers of Azerbaijan, Turkey, Russia, Georgia and Armenia discussed Ankara-initiated Caucasus Stability and Cooperation Platform.
He also added his country will continue its efforts within the platform.
 
GUAM FOREIGN MINISTERS` MEETING, GUAM + JAPAN, GUAM+U.S., GUAM + CZECH REPUBLIC MEETINGS HELD IN HELSINKI
GUAM foreign ministers met in Helsinki, Finland, to discuss mutual activities on ensuring peace, security and stability within the organization`s member states and implementing decisions of the Batumi summit of GUAM heads of state held on July 1 this year.
The ministers stressed the necessity of attracting the international community`s attention to settlement of "frozen conflicts."
Meetings were held in Helsinki in GUAM-Japan, GAUM-U.S. and GUAM-the Czech Republic format, as well.
The ministers submitted proposals to the U.S diplomats which were drawn up within GUAM-U.S cooperation program on illegal drug trade, human trafficking and illegal migration.
They also discussed cooperation between GUAM and U.S. border services.

ISTANBUL (A.A) - 05.12.2008 - Turkey and Armenia have been presented with "Peace and Sport Image of the Year Award" by Monaco-based Peace and Sport Organization (Organisation pour la Paix et le Spo Sport). 

The organization said in a statement posted in its web-site, "this distinction for the best image of fraternization through sport was awarded for a photograph of the historic handshake between the President of the Republic of Turkey Abdullah Gul and the President of Armenia, Serge Sarkissian, during the qualifying match for the Football World Cup between Turkey and Armenia. Thanks to football, this moment marked the end of nearly two decades of diplomatic silence."

Mahmut Ozgener, president of the Turkish Football Federation,received the award on behalf of President Gul from Prince Albert II of Monaco. 

Ozgener said during the award ceremony that President Gul's historic visit to Armenia to watch the match proved that sport was an powerful instrument bringing peoples together and ensuring peace in the world. 

The Peace and Sport Organization aims to use sport to educate individuals and communities across the world about peace. The Peace and Sport acts to promote sport as a basis for efficient political actions and a tool for peace.
