President Tokayev to take part in CIS Heads of State Council meeting

NUR-SULTAN,13 October 2021 (KAZINFORM) – President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev is set to participate in the regular meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the Commonwealth of Independent States later this week, Kazinform has learnt from the President’s Press Secretary Berik Uali.

«Kazakhstan President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev will take part in the virtual regular meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the Commonwealth of Independent States to be held on October 15 under the presidency of Belarus.

The CIS leaders will discuss the state and prospects of deepening cooperation within the Commonwealth. Kazakhstan will take over the presidency in the CIS in 2022,» Uali wrote in a Facebook post.

Kazakhstan to take part in 2021 European Forum for Disaster Risk Reduction

BRUSSELS, 18 June 2021 (KAZINFORM) – Ambassador of Kazakhstan to Belgium Margulan Baimukhan held a meeting with Chief of the UN Office for Disaster Risk Reeducation for Europe and Central Asia Mr. Octavian Bivol, Kazinform correspondent reports.

The Office was renamed into UN Office for Disaster Risk Reduction for Europe and Central Asia on June 1, 2021, which, according to Mr. Octavian Bivol, reflects the commitment of the CA countries to reduce the risk of disasters as an effective and advanced approach in the disaster management and ensuring the country’s development.

Kazakhstan is an active member of the Sendai framework on disaster risk reduction – the UN’s platform to reduce the risk of disasters for 2015/30.

The UN Office for Disaster Risk Reeducation for Europe and Central Asia is willing to actively cooperate with Kazakhstan’s Emergency Situations Ministry to reduce the risk of disasters.

The UNDRR focuses on analysis of disaster risks, facilitating the development of national and regional strategies, preparing the local population for different natural disasters as well as financing projects in the field.

During the meeting, the Chief of the UNDRR for Europe and Central Asia commended the cooperation of the Kazakhstan’s Emergency Situations Ministry within the Sendai framework on disaster risk reduction.

The Ministry together with the UNDRR is developing a system to register data on damages as a result of natural and manmade emergency situations called DesInventar-Sendai that is already operational in over 80 countries.

The Kazakh ambassador noted that Kazakhstan carries on cooperating with the UNDRR in the development of regional strategies for disaster risk reduction and national disaster loss registration systems, reducing disaster risks for people as well as within the work of the Emergency Situations and Natural Disaster Risk Reduction Center in Almaty city.

During the meeting, the sides discussed the participation of the Kazakhstani delegation in the upcoming 2021 European Forum for Disaster Risk Reduction set to take place in November 2021 in Portugal.

Kazakhstan sends nearly 40 tons of humanitarian aid to India

NEW DELHI, 14 May 2021 (KAZINFORM) – In accordance with instructions from President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and guided by the principles of strategic partnership between the two states, the Government of Kazakhstan has provided humanitarian assistance to India during this serious epidemiological situation of COVID-19, Kazinform cites the press service of the Kazakh Foreign Ministry.

The first of the two Kazakh aircrafts with its cargo landed at the Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi in the morning on May 14, 2021, with the second one expected to arrive several hours later.

This humanitarian aid weighing around 40 tons includes medical masks, respirators, protective suits and portable artificial lung ventilation devices produced in Kazakhstan. This aid was officially handed over at the airport by Ambassador of Kazakhstan to India Nurlan Zhalgasbayev and to Director of the Eurasian Department of the Ministry of External Affairs of India Bandaru Wilsonbabu.

On 4 May, President Tokayev addressed a telegram to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, expressing «deep solidarity with the Indian nation over the devastating COVID-19 surge in this country», and on May 7, instructed the Government of Kazakhstan to provide and despatch the necessary assistance to the Indian authorities.

It should be noted that in 2020, India had sent hydroxychloroquine tablets to help Kazakhstan fight the pandemic.

Chinese investors to launch 2 plants in Turkestan region

TURKESTAN, 14 May 2021 (KAZINFORM) – Chinese investors plan to build bus and electric storage battery plants in Turkestan region, the regional administration’s press service reports.

Chinese visiting delegation and Turkestan region authorities met and signed a memo of cooperation. As stated there, many Chinese investors want to arrive and work in Turkestan region as it is rapidly developing. As of now Chinese investors plan to build bus and electric storage battery plants in the region.

Besides, the sides debated development of bilateral cooperation, business ties. Governor Umirzak Shukeyev told about the region’s economic potential and called to fulfill joint projects. A free economic zone will be built at the industrial area within a month. All conditions will be created for investors, such as land resources, electric energy, gas supplies and railway services. Besides, investors will accord tax exemption.

The industrial area, founded as a free economic zone in a short period of time, will cover 350 ha. It will provide great opportunities for realization of investment projects. USD3.5 bln of investments were already attracted into the region. 97 projects worth USD 3.6 bln will be developed in the region within four years ahead. As a result 22,000 jobs will be created there.

Kazakh Head of State appoints new ambassadors to several countries

NUR-SULTAN, 19 April 2021 (KAZINFORM) – New Kazakh ambassadors to Kyrgyzstan, Belgium, and India have been appointed as decreed by the President, Kazinform cites the Akorda press service.

Rapil Zhoshybayev has been named the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Kazakhstan to Kyrgyzstan.

Margulan Baimukhan took up the posts of Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Kazakhstan to Belgium and Head of Kazakhstan’s Representation to the European Union and NATO.

Nurlan Zhalgasbayev is new Kazakh Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Kazakhstan to India.

The Kazakh President also decreed to relieve Kairat Nurpeisov of the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Kazakhstan to Kyrgyzstan post.

Under the decree, Yerlan Alimbayev has been relieved of his posts of Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to India as well as to Sri-Lanka, Bangladesh, Nepal, Butan, and Maldives.

The Head of State decreed to appoint Yerlan Alimbayev as the Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister of Kazakhstan.

Tokayev sent telegram of condolences to Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdymukhammedov

NUR-SULTAN, 19 April 2021 (KAZINFORM) – Kazakh Head of State Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has sent a telegram of condolences to Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdymukhammedov over the passing of the latter’s father, Kazinform cites the Akorda press service.

On behalf of the people of Kazakhstan and on his own behalf, the Head of State expressed deep condolences to President Gurbanguly Berdymukhammedov of Turkmenistan over the demise of his father Myalikguly Berdymukhammedov.

«The good memory of your father will forever remain in the hearts of his close ones and all his compatriots as a bright man, a wise mentor and a true patriot who dedicated his life to selfless service to the Motherland. Sharing the pain of an irreparable loss, I wish you and your family fortitude in this difficult time,» President Tokayev writes in his telegram.

Askar Mamin calls on ministers, governors to attract investments

NUR-SULTAN, 11 March 2021 (KAZINFORM) – Kazakh Prime Minister Askar Mamin has announced a number of tasks after being briefed on the social and economic development of the country and republican budget utilization between January-February this year, Kazinform correspondent reports.

The Kazakh PM charged the ministers, governors, and heads of national holdings and companies with constantly working on attracting internal and external investments, with investor support measures to be in place taking into account the amount of investment and the project’s priority.

To support the business subjects in the new reality direct applicability measures are to be taken in three areas to boost business activity, including ensuring access to financing, reducing the burden on business, and greater access to markets.

Mamin also said that in January-February of 2021 there has been the growth in the key indicators of social and economic development of Almaty and Akmola regions. The country’s 5 areas, including Aktobe, East Kazakhstan, Karaganda, Kostanay regions and the city of Shymkent have reported the growth in the five indictors, whereas other eight areas have seen the positive trend in the four indicators.

The lowest indicators have been reported in Atyrau and West Kazakhstan regions.

In conclusion, the PM instructed the minister and governors to step up the work, take the necessary measures, and fulfill the goals and objectives set.

Kazakhstan to encourage children’s interest in reading

NUR-SULTAN, 3 March 2021 (KAZINFORM) – «Kazakh Culture and Sports Ministry developed a special concept to encourage children’s and youth interest in reading,» Vice Minister Nurkissa Daueshov said.

«Currently there are more than 11,000 libraries in Kazakhstan, including 4,000 subordinate to the Ministry. This year it is expected to increase the quantity and quality of children’s books,» the Vice Minister told the event held in Nur-Sultan.

He added that the special concept was developed to encourage children’s interest in reading. It is planned to hold about 10,000 various events within the year. Each month will be devoted to a certain theme. For example, this March is devoted to the Fairytale world. It is planned to publish 33 literary works for children as part of the festive events.

As earlier reported, the Kazakh Culture and Sports Ministry declared 2021 as the Children’s and Youth Reading Support Year.

Kazakh, Kyrgyz Presidents reaffirm further cooperation at expanded meeting

NUR-SULTAN, 2 March 2021 (KAZINFORM) – Presidents of Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and Sadyr Zhaparov discussed at length the prospects for further strengthening of strategic partnership and alliance as well as shared the views on the current issues of regional and international agendas, Kazinform cites the Akorda press service.

The expanded meeting focused on building the trade and economic partnership and close interaction in political, economic, cultural and humanitarian spheres.

Welcoming the Kyrgyz delegation, the Kazakh President stressed that the two countries have traditional fraternal ties of friendship and cooperation. He expressed the country’s willingness to always provide all-round support Kyrgyzstan, pointing to the long-standing good-neighborly, fraternal relations, friendship and unity.

The Kazakh President said that during the talks in narrow format the main areas of further cooperation between Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan were outlined.

«I confirm Kazakhstan’s commitment to the path toward comprehensive strengthening of partnership and alliance relations between our countries,» stated the Kazakh Head of State.

In his turn, Kyrgyz President Sadyr Zhaparov thanked the Kazakh Leader and people on the assistance and readiness to provide support in the fight against COVID-19.

«Today’s talks are traditionally taking place in a spirit of alliance relations and strategic partnership central to the interaction between the countries. The talks in narrow format touched upon the key issues of bilateral cooperation between the countries within the regional and international organizations,» the Kyrgyz President said, stating that the countries do not have any political contradictions.

The two Presidents agreed on the need to fully expand business ties, develop investment cooperation, jointly harness the transport and transit potential of the countries, and implement joint digitalization projects.

Given the cultural and historical and language closeness between the nations, the Presidents reaffirmed their commitment to further develop science, education, health, culture, tourism, and sports cooperation.

The talks ended with the signing of the documents.
