Azerbaijan`s Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov has had a telephone conversation with his Iranian counterpart Hossein Amirabdollahian.

Minister Jeyhun Bayramov congratulated Hossein Amirabdollahian on his appointment as Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran and wished him success in his activities.

FM Bayramov stressed the existence of relations based on the principles of friendship and cooperation that have deep historical roots, broad-spectrum bilateral cooperation agenda between Azerbaijan and Iran, noting that a number of projects have been successfully implemented by the two countries.

The sides also exchanged views on the current situation in the region and some issues of bilateral cooperation.

Minister Jeyhun Bayramov invited his Iranian counterpart to pay an official visit to Azerbaijan.

Azerbaijan`s Minister of Foreign Affairs Jeyhun Bayramov has met with Head of British Council Delegation in Azerbaijan Samr Shah upon termination of his term in the country.

Noting that Azerbaijan attaches importance to cooperation with the British Council, Minister Jeyhun Bayramov expressed appreciation for the projects implemented in the fields of education and culture by the British Council, which has been operating in the country for 28 years.

FM Bayramov wished Samr Shah success in his future endeavors and noted that he worked at a historic time for Azerbaijan, and also expressed confidence in the beneficial and fruitful cooperation with the new head of the British Council in Azerbaijan.

Samr Shah spoke with satisfaction about the work done together with the team at the Council during his term in Azerbaijan and shared his fond memories in this regard.

The parties discussed other issues of mutual interest.

The semifinals of the “Tank Biathlon” contest are being held in Moscow, Russia, as part of the “International Army Games-2021”, Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Defense told AZERTAC.

“At this stage, three crews on each team have to cover a distance of 50 kilometers with a tank and destroy 24 targets. The teams that will reach the finals will be determined, according to the results of the semifinals”, the ministry said.

3,788 new cases of coronavirus infection have been recorded in Azerbaijan, while 3,228 patients have been recovered, the Task Force under the Cabinet of Ministers told AZERTAC.

According to the Task Force, 44 persons have died after testing positive for COVID-19.

“The overall confirmed cases in Azerbaijan have reached 424,891 with 366,126 recoveries and 5,636 deaths, while treatment of 53,129 others is underway.

“A total of 4,461,937 coronavirus tests have been conducted in the country so far,” the Task Force added.

During the “Sea Cup” contest held in Enzeli, the Islamic Republic of Iran, as part of the International Army Games-2021 the military seamen of the participating countries fulfilled the task “Artillery firing at a floating mine” of the “Artillery firing” stage at the combat training range in the Caspian Sea, Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Defense told AZERTAC.

“According to the terms of the task, the seamen hit two mine targets floating at a certain distance from the moving ships, using a total of 32 bullets.

The Board of Referees assessed the results of the timely departure of the ships and the hitting of targets.

At the end of the task, the Iranian team took the first place with 38 points, Russian team took the second place with 36 points, Kazakh team took the third place with 34 points, and the Azerbaijani seamen took the fourth place with 28 points.

The next stage of the competition is underway,” the ministry said.

Azerbaijan`s Minister of Foreign Affairs Jeyhun Bayramov has met with new co-chair of the OSCE Minsk Group Igor Khovayev of the Russian Federation.

Minister Jeyhun Bayramov congratulated Igor Khovayev on his appointment.

Khovayev said the visit was arranged for familiarization purposes.

FM Bayramov briefed the Russian co-chair on the current situation in the region, steps taken by Azerbaijan in the post-conflict period, the possibility of normalizing relations with Armenia on the basis of international law as the occupation factor is eliminated, as well as futility of revanchist position of Armenia and the importance of taking advantage of the opportunities for cooperation.

The sides exchanged views on the implementation of the provisions of the trilateral statement and the realization of confidence-building measures.

Azerbaijani swimmer Raman Saleh has grabbed his second gold medal at Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games.

He secured the medal in the men’s 100m freestyle event.

Saleh claimed his first gold medal in the men’s 100m backstroke event on August 27.
